Service Bead System

The purpose of the service bead system as put forth in the Lodge by-laws is “to recognize those members that demonstrate a willingness to service in the activities and principles of the lodge.”

Events of merit, for which a bead is presented, are determined and published by the Executive Committee. Typically, these are OA service weekends, executive meetings, lodge quarterly meetings.

Beads are to be worn from a leather thong suspended from the right pocket. Members provide their own leather thong to place beads on. Members are encouraged to “trade up” to the next higher level of bead as soon as possible to return lower value beads to the lodge to be re-used.

Beads are presented at the activity for which they are earned and are the responsibilities of the Vice-Chief of Administration. The box containing the beads is typically available at all OA service weekends, executive meetings and lodge quarterly meetings.
