Vigil Honor Nominating Committee

The Vigil Honor Nominating Committee selects and inducts Vigil Honor members into the Lodge.

Each year, between January and April, an ad-hoc committee of Lodge Arrowmen are selected to serve on the Vigil Honor Nominating Committee. It is their job to choose who is most worthy, and to make recommendations for the bestowing of the honor of the Vigil from the members of the lodge.

The committee will be actively seeking your input for all worthy candidates for the Vigil Honor. All members of the lodge: Ordeal, Brotherhood, and Vigil, may suggest names to the Vigil Selection Committee for consideration of this high honor. If you are not sure if the person you had in mind is eligible, you can check with the Membership Committee.

Vigil Honor Nomination Form

To nominate someone for the Vigil Honor, please complete the online nomination form before the February 29, 2024 deadline.

Who is worthy of the Vigil Honor Recognition?

This honor is bestowed by special selection and is limited to one person for every 50 members registered with the lodge each year.

Any member of the Order of the Arrow registered in Scouting and in good standing in a regularly chartered lodge is eligible for recommendation to the national Order of the Arrow Committee for elevation to the Vigil Honor, provided that, at the time of the recommendation, the individual has been a Brotherhood member for a minimum of 2 years.

Alertness to the needs of others is the mark of the Vigil Honor. It calls for an individual with an unusual awareness of the possibilities within each situation. The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and recognition reserved for the Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office to one or more of the following: their lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting, or their Scout camp. Under no circumstances should tenure in Scouting or the Order of the Arrow be considered as reason enough for a Vigil Honor recommendation.

If you have any questions about the procedure, or would like to suggest a member for the Vigil Honor, please contact the Vigil Committee.

Yours in Service,
The Vigil Selection Committee
